Roof leaks are inconvenient – there's no way around it! However, commercial roof leaks have a way of being especially destructive and expensive as it can lead to a loss in revenue for your business. As a business owner myself, I know that's the last thing you want! Money aside, commercial roof leaks can also result in major safety concerns, technology damage, fire hazards, and more. Though natural disasters can't be prevented, slow-growing roof leaks caused from neglect can be. By heeding these 5 tips, you can decrease the chances of letting a roof leak wreak havoc on your office.
1. Monitor for Physical Damage
Consistency is key. Try to make it part of your routine to glance at your roof every so often to see if there is any visible, physical damage. After a big storm, it's especially important to monitor for damage. If you have any concerns, it's worth it to have your roof inspected. We promise a roof inspection is much less expensive than being forced to send your employees home or replace all of your equipment.
2. Check Ceilings/Walls for Water Stains
If you see a water stain on your ceiling or walls, it's a big sign that you need to do something fast. Though inspecting for water stains may not fall into your list of to-dos every day, it's important to be aware. You can also let employees know to report it if they were to ever see water stains or any other signs of a leaking roof. It takes a village!
3. Check for a Puddling Roof
If you can see puddles on your roof from the parking lot, this is not a good sign! These puddles on your roof, also known as roof ponding, means that your draining system is not operating properly. If the water has no where to go, it will start finding other avenues for escape – which just might be through your roof and into your office.
4. Clear Gutters
In order to allow your drainage system to work the way it should, it's important to clear your drains of any leaves, sticks, or other garbage. If your gutters get too clogged, it can not only directly cause a roof leak, but it can also damage your roof in other ways. It's especially important to have this done during the fall and winter when you may have more leaves in your gutters than usual. Click here to learn more about our gutter services.
5. Schedule Routine Roof Inspections
While it's always good to monitor your roof yourself, we highly recommend having a professional thoroughly inspect your roof for any damage. Trained professionals will be able to identify any potential issues and are usually able to fix minor issues during the inspection. Not to mention, we would rather you leave it to us to get on your roof as we have years of experience and safety guidelines in place to avoid injuries.
Be Proactive
Being proactive is always better than being reactive. Most business owners would rather spend money on routine inspections and maintenance than spend thousands upon thousands or even more on a damaged structure, damaged product, damaged technology, or other issues that could occur due to water damage or fire.
We would be happy to inspect your roof, complete minor roof repairs, or even replace your roof if needed!
